Weird Korean food
Weird Korean food. (Like really weird)
I've been in Korea for almost 3 weeks now, and korean restaurants had been challenging me several times already...
I like trying new dishes and new flavors, but I didn't expect it would have gone so far. Get ready.
This article is not suitable for those with a sensitive disposition
LEVEL ONE : FIRE NOODLE or HOW-TO-SUFFER-INSTEAD-OF-ENJOY-YOUR-NOODLES
![]() |
| This lil chick looks so innocent *_* |
Some korean people can't even handle it... It's a real fire entering your mouth. The taste is not that bad (if you can feel something else but fire). Those evil ramen are just simple instant noodles that you can find in 7 eleven.
If you type "Fire noodle challenge" on Youtube, you will find some funny (depends the point of view) videos of korean people challenging foreigners with fire noodles. The weakest just cry, vomit or almost pass out, and the bravest enjoy with pain (With this lil drop of sweat chilling on the forehead).
You are now warned. It's all on you !
(Please tell me about your feeling if you try it in the comment below !!)
LEVEL 2 : BEONDAEGI
Those who already traveled through South Asia must have already heard or even tried insects. I personally tasted scorpions, crickets and worms in Thailand. But always fried. Those are silkworms, steamed or boiled.
The taste is totally different than the fried ones. And it's a bit too soft and intact for me. To be honest, I'm not a big fan.
If you want to get some worms for appetizer you will find them among the street venders.
OR, in all 7 eleven in a can, near the Tuna cans...Random food cans you know... ahahah ! Also, I had them as a side dish with the maegkolli I ordered in Jeongju. ( What a good surprise to see a plate of worms arriving with your drinks ! ).
LEVEL 3 : SANNAKJI...Famously known as "MOVING SQUID TENTACLES"
This dish is so fun. You will literally get a plate full of raw moving tentacles. Several emotions will cross your mind...
FUN-INTRIGUE-FEAR
After analyzing it with your chopsticks, you will realize that the suction cups are still super strong. And then you just need to go for it !
It may stay stuck on your tongue or cheeks, be careful and chew it. You don't wanna go to the hospital with a squid tentacle stuck in your throat...Don't you ?
The taste is surprisingly nice. You can deep it in sesame oil, and sometimes it's even served with a beef tartar.
Trust me, you have to try these if you like raw fish.
Just forget that it's still moving. Easy.
Enjoy.
