Korean food stories
Korean food stories !
Because my mission is to try all the korean traditional dishes, I want to share some pictures of my achievement till now ! Of course it's just few examples, let's call it the Round 1 ahaha !
> Buddae Jiggae - Army soup
There is a story behind this soup !
During the Korean war, people had a few to eat, so they used the leftovers from US and Korean army to create a soup, with whatever they had. That's why it is made of Spam (korean pork) and sausages (from the US hot dogs). They used to put rice cakes, beans, tofu, even macaronis !
Nowadays, if you order a buddae jiggae at the restaurant, you will get the korean version, with spam, sausages, cabbage (kimchi), spring onions, chili...
It is actually very nice and very heavy, you better be starving before eating this soup because it's gonna full your stomach very well !!
> Jajangmyeon - Chinese black noodles
Korean's favorite chinese dish ! Want another food story ? let's go !
When Korea opened the Incheon Airport, many chinese people moved to a town near Incheon ( you may know that there is a China Town over there ?).
In this China Town, chinese people opened several restaurants and made a "korean version" of their dish with black bean paste, caramel and onions.
I called it "korean version" because it is a little bit different from the original chinese dish.
Jajangmyeon was created !
And Korean people especially loved this dish.
> Tofu Jiggae - Tofu soup

Ok the picture is not as cool as the others, I guess nobody put the Tofu Jiggae on Instagram...
There is also no story for this dish. It is just my favourite ever !
Tofu is not good at all in Europe, so I was super happy to discover this wonderful soup when I arrived here *_*
It is a random soup with a lot of soft tofu boiled with veggies and sometimes seafood or meat.
> Hangover soup - Haejang-guk
Those soups are supposed to cure your sunday hangover ! (Sounds magical...) I don't know what to say about this because there are different ones and for me, it is normal soups, but of course soup is good for a hangover so it makes sense. :D
BTW, it is tasty so it worth it !
> Daeji Kukbab - Pork rice soup
This one is very tasty and healthy. (As soon as you don't order those delicious fried green pepper mandu in the background).
It is made of pork with vegetables, rice, and eggs. All is stew in a hot pot.
Apparently, it is very famous in Busan (a city in the south of Korea).
You can put these very salty sauce in the soup to arrange the taste. Depend on you !
It is very very salty, but I really like it !
One is made of shrimp and the other is beef.
> Teok Mandu Kuk - Rice cakes and dumplings soup
A big bowl full of rice cakes and dumplings in a beef or anchovy broth ! Delicious ! There is also some herbs and egg.
It is definitely too big for me, I can't finish it...
How many stomaches do we need to finish this soup ? ??
It looks innocent but wow, it is a lot !
You may have understood that I really like soup ahaha ! There are still so many korean dishes to try... (Round 2 next month ?!)
I hope this article can help you or inspire you for your future lunches and dinners ! :)
If you have any recommendations for me, don't hesitate to leave a comment below and I'll run to try it :D
